Re:Plastics is a practical guide and a series of training sessions designed to actively transform how we view, use (or not use), recover and reuse plastics more responsibly and to their full potential.

With the right knowledge, tools and connections, we can all accelerate this change for a better future – here in New Zealand and globally. Start your journey by downloading our basic Design Guide.

Read each chapter from front to back to elevate your understanding, or jump ahead to the content most relevant to you. To gain more in depth knowledge and to put your learnings into action, attend one of our training days. As part of this you’ll receive our comprehensive Design Guide.

A circular plastics economy moves us away from the linear economy. Instead, we will create a system that utilises plastic resources perpetually, keeping materials inflow, retaining value and designing out waste altogether.

To reshape our relationship with plastic and advance a circular plastics economy, we need to understand their uses and gain clarity on what to avoid, how to recover plastics here in Aotearoa, the best practices, and the opportunities.

By understanding what’s truly possible today, we can all start making better design decisions, that together, improve our impacts for tomorrow. Get to know the current New Zealand plastics market and the players and partners you’ll need to make your solution and systems work harder.

How will you start designing for a circular economy? Consider which new materials, new technology, new innovations and new business models you could use. Use the Re:Plastics decision tree to explore how to eliminate, circulate or innovate your product, packaging and systems. Actioning these changes in your business will reduce environmental impact, and present new opportunities.

It can be hard to know where — or how — to start shaping your use of plastics for a future with lower emissions, minimal waste and more positive environmental impact. But starting is exactly what we all need to be doing. We’ve outlined a few simple steps to help you define your actionable plan towards better solutions and achieving the benefits of a circular plastics economy. Build your capability. Define your impact. Design your solution. Make it real.

We acknowledge that the most powerful thing we can do is enable you — New Zealand’s decision-makers — to determine your pathway  towards a circular plastics economy. By bringing together accurate information, best-practice advice, and simple tools our hope is to give you a clear understanding of the steps you can take to achieve your goals.

Put your learning into action.

We look forward to seeing you shape your path and transform your impact, and hope your innovations will go far beyond achieving measurable environmental gain, to realise greater economic and social benefits.

To get started – join us at one of the Re:Plastics training workshops to put your learning into action and develop a plan. With the support of the Ministry for the Environment, we’re thrilled to be able to offer a limited number of attendees a training subsidy.
