Reshaping plastics in Aotearoa New Zealand.

In this 60-minute webinar, we share the vision behind this important work for our economy, and for our future. Alongside representatives from MfE, NZ manufacturing and material experts and Circularity practitioners, we discuss the challenges we face today, and the opportunities that training for a circular plastics economy can offer. Because it’s only together that we can reshape our systems, solutions and impacts.

Redefining ‘waste’ as resource.

In our current linear world, we let an incredible volume of valuable materials go to waste.

The Circular Economy considers every stage of a product’s journey – including before and after it reaches the customer. This approach is vital to stop plastic pollution, but as this recent report Breaking the Plastic Wave shows, it also offers the strongest economic, social, and climate benefits.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation modeled five different scenarios to address plastic wastage and pollution, from business as usual to an entire system change to a circular economy. It is clear that the circular economy approach will produce the best environmental and economic outcome – reducing the net cost by USD $200 bn per year, preventing 24 million tonnes of plastic leakage into the ocean, reducing virgin plastic use by 55% and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25%.

“We know the most powerful thing we can do is enable you, New Zealand’s decision-makers, to determine your pathway towards a circular plastics economy. Our hope is to provide accurate information, practical advice and a clear understanding of the steps required to make it possible.”
